Women’s Outer Suburban Pennants 2023 – Completed

Week 6 – Monday 1 May 2023 – Bye

Week 5 – Monday 24 April 2023

Monday 24 April 2023 saw the MCC ladies play the Pinjarra golf club played at ‘The Cut’ golf course.  Those who have played at ‘The Cut’ would be well aware that it is a spectacular golf course on the ocean front but if the weather is bad on the day then it can be a very hard round of golf.  After what was a beautiful weekend we copped the weather on Monday with a combination of wind and rain to test the patience of the players.

On the day our ladies fought hard with several close games but went down 4½ to 2½.  Like previous weeks, several games were in the balance for some time and as we golfers are all aware, the bounce of the ball and that little bit of luck can make the difference.

I cannot fault the efforts of the team and the support they give each other along with their caddies who keenly give up their time to assist the team.

This coming Monday we have a bye and will be the host club looking after all the visiting Pennant teams (around 80 ladies) who will get to experience our terrific club.

Kind regards

Week 4 – Monday 17 April 2023

On Monday 17th April the MCC played the Rockingham ladies at the Kwinana Golf Club. This was always going to be a difficult match as many of the MCC ladies gave up to 8 shots to their opponent so there was very little margin for error.  The MCC ladies fought hard all day and eventually went down 5/2 with several close games that could have gone either way.

Next week we play Pinjarra at The Cut golf course so fingers crossed for calm weather (no wind) and with two games left we will be giving our best to try and make the finals.

All the girls remain enthusiastic and have been enjoying the challenge of match play golf.

Kind regards

Week 3 – Monday 3 April 2023

A great win for the Mandurah Ladies in a hard fought contest against the previously undefeated Kwinana team played at the Hartfield Golf course on Monday 3rd April.  In a well deserved first win for the girls, they overcame a strong Kwinana team 4½ to 2½ and it was a very happy team that drove back to Mandurah.

As stated, the Kwinana team was previously undefeated with two previous wins (both 5/2) against Rockingham and The Cut.

The win will certainly lift our spirits and is a just reward for the Ladies who have always remained positive, tried hard and supported each other.

Again, a big thanks to the team for their efforts and to those who didn’t play but supported their colleagues by caddying on the day.

Next week we have a break for Easter so a ‘small’ celebration with chocolate and champagne will definitely be justified.

Week 2 – Monday 27 March 2023

Rockingham Golf Club was the host venue for our pennant match against Hartfield on Monday 27th March and the MCC ladies were very keen to score their first win of the season.

Unfortunately, the result was the same as our first outing with our team going down 4 games to 3 after some very competitive golf.

We all know what golf can be like, at times you need that stroke of luck to go your way and the bounce of the ball can determine the outcome of the match. The ladies are continually improving with a great team spirit and support for each other.

Once again thanks to the team for a great effort and to our caddies for their ongoing support and assistance.

Kind regards

Week 1 – Monday 20 March 2023

Monday 20 March 2023 was the opening game of the season with Mandurah playing ‘The Cut’ at the Gosnells Golf course.  It was an early start for the Ladies travelling to Gosnells to be ready for the 8.30am shotgun start time so leaving Mandurah before 6am (tough ask after the MCC Opening Day event).

Summer might be over, but you wouldn’t have known it with the mercury rising to the mid 30’s which made for challenging playing conditions on the hilly Gosnells layout.

The Mandurah Ladies fought hard with some really tight contests but unfortunately lost 4 games to 3 at the end of the day with one game going to the final hole before missing out.

Whilst a win would have been a great start to the season, the close contest was a credit to the Ladies who will be looking to reverse the result when they play Hartfield Golf Club at Rockingham next week.

A big thanks to the team for their efforts and I would also like to thank those who didn’t play but supported their colleagues by caddying on the day.

Kind regards
