Course Update – 1st Hole Opening scheduled for Monday 1st September 2025

As we approach the opening of the first green on 1st September, I would like to express our gratitude to members for their patience and understanding throughout the course of this project.

Selection of Greens for Reconstruction

Following the Course Masterplan, the first and fifth greens were selected for rebuilding. These greens had become increasingly challenging to maintain due to a limited number of available pin positions. Prior to redesign and construction, precise measurements and slope readings were taken to assess the usable areas of both greens at our average green speeds. Results showed that the first green could use just under 60% of its area, while the fifth green had about 50% of usable space.

Design Goals and Achievements

The primary objective was to retain the character of the greens while improving quality and playability for all golfers. Jarrod Mosely’s expertise was instrumental in creating larger greens with expanded playable areas, ensuring fairness without compromising the signature look and feel of Mandurah Country Club. The key improvements are as follows:

First Green

  • Putting surface increased by 70 sqm
  • Usable area for pin positions expanded from 58% to 82%
  • Enhanced drainage
  • Upgraded bunkering at the front left

The design brief for this green focused on restoring its original size. The expanded area now allows for pin placements along the entire left side and into the back right, with the only limit being the middle right transition area, similar to the previous configuration.

Fifth Green

  • Putting surface enlarged by 100 sqm, making it the largest green on the course
  • Usable area for pin positions increased from 51% to 90%
  • Improved ball runoff
  • Better traffic flow and playability on the surrounds

More than half the green retains its previous height; elsewhere, the surface was raised by up to 700mm and lowered by as much as 300mm. These changes mean the entire front and rear portions of this green can now be used comfortably in any conditions, not just the centre or the small back right section as before.
