Winter Course Care – Friday 10 May 2024

Winter Course Care – Friday 10 May 2024

Dear Members,

Over the past few years we have been improving the way we care for the course as players. This includes repairing divots and pitch marks, raking bunkers diligently, and being careful to keep carts and buggies away from green surrounds and muddy or worn areas. This is particularly important during the cooler wet months.

With the grass going dormant, both wheel and foot traffic will cause significant wear if players traverse the same areas regularly.  All golfers impact the condition of the course, both members and non-members. The club’s carts have signs in them directing players not to drive too close to greens. In addition, the course staff will use signage, hoops and ropes to direct traffic away from areas at risk of damage.

Over 80% of our winter rounds are played by members. Ensuring we, the members, adhere to the winter course protection policy will result in the course being presented in the best possible condition throughout the winter period, and of course, this is totally within our control.

There is the obvious common sense to ensue you avoid wet or worn areas and we request you to do this, but we ask you to adhere to the following:

  • You may not take pull buggies within 3m of a green. The fringes are high traffic and delicate areas. Please protect them.
  • All cart signs, ropes or blue lines must be adhered to.
  • Carts may not be driven within 7m of a green and never between a greenside bunker and green.
  • No more than two member owned carts per group. Please share carts to ensure we reduce the amount of traffic on the course over the winter period.

These rules will be in effect from the 1st June 2024 until after the WA open. We have an opportunity to showcase our course, and taking additional care over this winter will be a great help.

Please also ensure that general course care etiquette’s are followed. With dormant grass, pitch marks and divots will take longer to recover and therefore, it is imperative these are repaired.  If we want the course in fantastic condition please also repair any other pitch marks and divots you see on the course.

If there is any member where these regulations impact their ability to play (e.g. blue lines are too far away from the green making access difficult), then please make an appointment with our General Manager Grant to discuss so we can consider potential exemptions. Without an exemption we expect all members to adhere to the above regulations.

With all courtesies, it is in the best interest of all members if we also remind our playing partners to do the same.

Regards
John Benbow
Course Committee Chair

Presidents Update – Thursday 9th May 2024

Presidents Update – Thursday 9th May 2024

Dear Members,

Please see below an update on many of the activities and operations currently in progress around the Club.

Buildings
The balcony extension is progressing well.  The concrete pour took place on Wednesday 8th May 2024. All formwork structures will be removed Wednesday the 15th May 2024, which will cause some disruption to the AM players and we ask you to continue to follow the directions when you arrive for your game.  There will need to be cure time for the pad, with balustrading to be measured and made, so there might not be much action over the next few weeks however, we remain on track for a finish late winter. The ground floor finishing will take place near the completion of the build.  We thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Course
A note will be distributed shortly from the Facilities Director in regards to managing wear and looking after the course during the coming, hopefully wetter months. We continue to improve our practices (maintenance and player etiquettes) that have seen improvement year upon year for the last few years. With the WA Open scheduled for soon after the dormant season, we can only encourage greater awareness of managing wear on the course in the lead up to the significant event for our Club..

WA Open
Planning is in full swing. Our Team has met with Golf WA and we are putting together the schedules and plans. There will be considerable voluntary support required to execute an event of this size and we thank those that have already come forward. It is too early to understand the exact requirements however, we will put up a list in the competition scoring area and we ask any member that may be interested in assisting over the week, to please put your name down. This will allow us an early understanding of where we are at.

Operations
We have started a number of new employees throughout the club in all areas of Food, Beverage, Golf Operations and Course. This ensures we keep up with increasing demands and evolving operations, which will continue to improve the presentation of the facility and services to members. Please be patient with all employees, a number who are in training.

Club Championships
The Club Championships commence on Tuesday for the Women, and this Saturday for the Men, so I encourage you to participate.  If you choose not to enter, come along and watch and encourage your friends who will be playing. The Club Championship Dinner is on Sunday 26 May 2024.  Come and join in the celebration and presentation of trophies for the various winners.

Keep on enjoying your golf and the Club.

Ron Stone, President

Liquor License Amendment – Friday 3 May 2024

Liquor License Amendment – Friday 3 May 2024

Dear Members

We have applied for an Alteration Application to amend the Club’s Liquor License.

The clubhouse renovations will extend our building footprint and licensed area, which requires an alteration to our License.

There have been various changes to the Liquor Act over recent years which changes how Golf Clubs can administer the sale of alcohol for their course, so with this comes an opportunity to extend the License to the full golf course. This will allow us to better carter for future services and oncourse activities, whilst ensuring we do so within the guidelines of the License.

There is going to be an immediate and short-term disruption, as the Club will cease the takeaway sale of alcohol from our licensed premise onto the course during the application process.

This is a short-term stance to ensure a better long-term outcome, so we apologise for any inconvenience for members and guests. We will communicate confirmation as soon as RGL have confirmed our application.

Regards
Grant Shortland-Jones
General Manager
