WA Open 2024

WA Open 2024

Dear Members,

A brief but important update to let you know the Mandurah Country Club has been selected to host the 2024 WA Golf Open.  The negotiations have been taking place over the past few weeks and formal notification was received late this week.

I would like to thank Golf WA for their support, and in particular the City of Mandurah who will be working closely in conjunction with the Mandurah Country Club as well as sponsoring the event.

The selection of the Mandurah Country Club is a vote of confidence in the club administration and quality of our course and will bring golfing talent to Mandurah from around Australia.  The preparation and planning for the event will now begin in earnest and we will update members as we progress.

Congratulations to all involved.

Kind Regards

Ian Johnson, President

Wednesday & Saturday Competition Booking Rules – Friday 13 October 2023

Wednesday & Saturday Competition Booking Rules – Friday 13 October 2023

Dear Members,

It has come to the time of year where competitions are in higher demand due to improved weather, return of winter travellers and an increase in membership numbers during the middle of the year.  This traditionally takes place after renovations until the membership renewal period, when some members leave the club and competition numbers reduce back down.

The membership and use of the course requires an evolving management, but it is the aim of the club to ensure competition access is always available to members and competitions are not full.

The following items are required to be adhered to, but also to assist members to make competition times more accessible, with priority being given to playing members of the club:

  • Unless authorised by the Captain, guests cannot be booked into competitions times until two days prior.  This gives members five days priority access, with guests of a member taking available slots after this.
  • Under no circumstance can “blockers” be used. Any member reserving times in their group with a “blocker”, will come under disciplinary action from Match.
  • If you enter a competition but likely not able to play, please remove your name as soon as you become aware to open the available times to other members.
  • If your preferred time in a competition is full, there is a waitlist to put your name down where you can specify your preferred time. When a member cancels their competition time, those on the waitlist will automatically be slotted into that free space. This is an excellent automated tool to assist members to get better access to preferred times.
  • Women in the reserved Saturday AM Competition must book by Tuesday 5pm.  After this time, if there are any flights not used, these will be opened up to the mixed competition of the day.

The Golf Shop does an excellent job managing the day-to-day tee sheets, monitoring availabilities.  We ask members to adhere to the rules but also, to be courteous in considering all members in how you book or remove yourself from booking times.

Kind regards

Graham Bowen
Men’s Captain

2024 Australian Golf Foundation Junior Girls Scholarship 2024

2024 Australian Golf Foundation Junior Girls Scholarship 2024

MCC are now seeking applicants for the 2024 Australian Golf Foundation Junior Girls Scholarship.

Following our successful 2022 & 2023 program – we are now seeking expression of interest for our 2024 intake of the Australian Golf Foundation Junior Girls Scholarship.

Mandurah Country Club has obtained funding from The Australian Golf Foundation (AGF) to support six lucky teenage girls to pursue their golf.

Scholarships are open to girls aged 10 to 16 and while the program’s primary aim is to retain girls in golf by giving girls a shared golf experience, girls new to golf may also be engaged in this program should they demonstrate a commitment to learning the sport.

The Scholarship program is part of a national campaign to get more girls playing golf. All we ask is that applicants display a desire and willingness to improve their golf skills, obtain a handicap, play in club competitions (or at least social play) and engage in any extra-curricular activity that fosters friendships between scholarship holders.

Not only will girls receive 24 coaching sessions with Craig Tapp, but also a one year junior club membership, which helps to ensure girls obtain a handicap. A maximum of 6 scholarships are available for the start of Term 1 – 2024

For further information and to apply, please contact Mandurah Country Club admin@mandcountryclub.com.au.
